Dr. Davis wrote about Smith's and Judge Chase's power to sell property to Chandler School. Hopes Trustees will not sell Moor building. Judge Stanley tried to get Mr. Hayes to consent to this sale but failed.

Isaac William Smith was a member of the Dartmouth College Class of 1846. He was admitted to the bar in 1850 and practiced in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1877, he was appointed an associate justice in the New Hampshire Supreme Judicial Court. He was named a trustee of Dartmouth College in 1885 and held that post until his death.
